European Association for Urban History (EAUH) warmly welcomes you to the 13th International Conference on Urban History which will take place in the scenic seaside city of Helsinki from the 24th to the 27th August 2016. As well as the official conference programme of lectures and sessions, there will be a lively social programme including receptions, a conference dinner and the opportunity to visit major cultural sites in and around Helsinki, as well other cities of the region such as industrial Tampere, medieval Tallinn, and imperial St Petersburg.
The call for session proposals is now open until March 1, 2015. Proposals can be submitted on the website, and session organisers will be notified of decisions regarding acceptance in May 2015.
The European Association for Urban History encourages cross-disciplinary and international research on urban history. Therefore the Association invites you to submit sessions that are as comparative and interdisciplinary as possible. Furthermore, we give priority to sessions which are co-organised by scholars from different universities / countries. Preference may be given to small specialist sessions dealing with cutting edge themes.
Suggested structure for the session proposals:
1. Title of the session.
2. An abstract of 200-400 words on a coherent and focused session topic, including a leading question, several key issues, the scientific relevance of the session in the context of recent historiography (why the topic is timely and important), what the session aims to achieve, and a list of potential themes that will particularly fit with the aims of the session. Sessions that seek to draw comparisons across one or more countries and broaden our perspective beyond Europe are particularly encouraged.
3. Proposed session category: main session (3 hours, max. 7– 8 papers) or specialist session (1.5 hours, max. 3–4 papers). Preference may be given to small specialist sessions dealing with cutting edge themes.
4. Name, affiliation, mailing address and e-mail address of the session organiser(s). Each session should have at least two organisers. We will give priority to sessions which are co-organised by scholars from different universities /countries.
5. Previous experience of the organiser(s) in organizing conference sessions, if any. (An exhaustive list is not necessary). Young scholars without previous experience in organising sessions may list their experience in presenting papers at international conferences. The EAUH conference functions on the basis of open calls. The sessions should not be organised on the basis of a preconceived list of paper givers. In principle, session organisers do not give a presentation at their session.
